New Zealand's Top Metal Band Of The 90's
PSYCLOPS - "Heavy as!"
Above: Psyclops.
Left: Their second release, "Let The Mutilation Begin..."
was widely acclaimed
by the Critics and
Reviewers alike
In the words of "Real Groovy" Magazine's review of this CD Album, Psyclops sound a lot like Metallica but were too busy 'kickin' butt' to realise. In other words, the sound is very Metallica but the songs and style is unique to Psyclops, a 4 man band from Cambridge, New Zealand.
For most of the 90's Psyclops was the top New Zealand Metal Band and their fame  reached  Australia where the
"Heavy Metal" Magazine described them as a fresh breeze in a scene that had become bogged down with a boring sameness. The Reviewer for that magazine was Reviewing their first release, a Cassette Tape onl, 5 track EP called "Deface" (cica 1994)
Psyclop's biggest support was in Hamilton where this CD was recorded and the local Radio Station and Press gave the band all the coverage and support needed to reach the masses with their own brand of raw, exciting, original material.
The line-up of this Band are: Jeremy Cole on bass and vocals,  Chris Cole on guitar, Adam Wyatt on guitar and Dylan Raethel on drums. The CD can be purchased at Beatzone Records Gemm site and NZ Music Shop's Musicstack site. It can also be purchased right here on the Tree Records section of this Web Site as Tree was Psyclop's National Distributor in 1996.
Out Of Nelson, New Zealand, Came A Heavy Metal Band Called...
NADIR
Having just finished their education, NADIR decided they wanted a career as a Heavy Metal Band and instead of making demo tapes and hawking them around the major Labels, they just hired a studio, made this Album and packaged it themselves in a very slick digi pack, complete with impressive booklet and a very 'naughty' hidden track. Sadly, due to inexperience, the spacing between the Album proper and that 'naughty' one, is far too long so NEVER put this CD in first in a multi-CD Player otherwise you'll wait simply ages and ages to hear it.
Having issued the CD through Tree Distribution, they organised a national Tour but had many gigs cancelled when the Publicans realised they were Heavy Metal, not Hard Rockers. They were just too loud for the sedate New Zealand Pubs. Such attitudes were experienced by all Metal Bands in New Zealand and was a major hinderence to their progress to National recognition.
Within a year, the young NADIR broke up and moved to Australia were they had much better fortunes, especially since "Heavy Metal" Magazine considered them not just 'straight down the Heavy Metal line', but "fresh and building on all that had been done before them without sounding like 'just more of the same'.
The original line-up, as performing on this CD Album, were: Rob Lambert vocals and guitar, Nathan Neumann on guitar, Duncan Millar on bass and Kori Barnett on drums. Rob Lambert was the only original 1993 line-up member left when this Album was made.
NADIR also featured on a Heavy Metal Compilation called "The Hairy Armpit Session" and issued a 4 track EP in 1995 called "Empty Your Mind". Live-wise, they supported  the then newly emerging NZ Metal band Head Like A Hole, who later were signed up to a major NZ Label. You can purchse this factory-sealed digi packed CD at Beatzone Records Gemm site and NZ Music Shop's site at Musicstack, or buy directed right here on the Tree Records section of this Web Site.
