New Zealand Artists

BEATZONE MEDIA
The Official Website Of Beatzone Media Group

This page is about New Zealand's own recording artists, both past and present. Tucked away at the bottom of the globe, Kiwi Kids of the 60's decided not to miss out on the pop revolution and since they couldn't be at the heart of it all, they created their own Scenes and Music. Some are now known globally for their music. Others are 'big' 'Down Under' only but all contributed to the musical culture of New Zealand.

Exciting New Group From New Plymouth
SCHIZO PHRENIA

From the heart of the Taranaki, Schizo Phrenia's second CD Album has been released and it's hard rock to the core. Fresh and full of excitement, the Album has a sharp reality about it and the title, "No-One's Laughing" is an apt statement at present.
Schizo Phrenia's 2nd CD album pulls no punches.
Schizo Phrenia are a 5 piece Hard Rock band made up of 3 men and 2 women who have been together since 1998. The group was formed by Michael & Elizabeth Wheeler (aka Jack B. Nimble & Skin Lizzie). Jack sings and plays distorted guitar. Skin Lizzie is the vocalist while Dave Roskilly and Jozie play guitars and Marc Devine is their drummer. Their first CD, "The Scream" was recorded in the 1996-8 period and a CD Single is due any day from this latest release. You can find other recordings by Schizo Phrenia on the compilation albums "Regional Finals" produced by Truly Fine Citizen,"Not So Quiet In New Plymouth", and the "Mushroom Ball '98" (live to the Internet). A DVD is on it's way - the first made in New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Bill & Boyd Are Rockers From
Way-Back When...

It was the late Fifties and Elvis was the King and Down Under hopefuls like Johnny Devlin and Johnny O'Keefe were making waves as Presley mimickers. Howard Morrison and the boys toured New Zealand and on the same billing were Bill & Boyd. Dinah Lee hadn't started recording when these guys were on the road, entertaining Kiwis every night.
They managed to adapt to the early 60's swoon and even the arrival of the Liverpool Sound. Then in the mid 60's they re-located to Australia and starting from scratch, built up just as big a name for themselves there as they had in New Zealand. They also toured the USA for a while too.
This Bill & Boyd CD
Collection is excellent.
The Legendary Guitarist Peter Posa
When you hear the name Peter Posa, you automatically think "White Rabbit" but Peter's skills on the guitar run much deeper and like Bill & Boyd, Howard Morrison, Dinah Lee and Ray Columbus,
Peter is a legend and not just in New Zealand.
At the peak of his career he worked in America with Chet Atkins, woed them in Japan and Australia too. He had a lot to do with the career of Country singer Marie Dallas too.
Peter recorded exclusively for Viking Records and worked with Producer Ron Dalton all his career. This recently re-issued CD of Peter's "highlights" from a long career and features that fasmous "White Rabbit" along with "Wheels", "The Mad hatter" and Guitar Boogie" as well as Peter's versions of 60's hits like "Do Wah Diddy Diddy", "Eight Days A Week", "Please Please Me", "Send Me The Pillow You Dream On" and "Jamaica Farewell" to name just a few of the 20 tracks featured.
The CD is well presented with a full colour photo on the disc and a discography inside which is always great to have as our grey matter doesn't always remember the correct times events actually took place.

This CD re-issue of their musical career highlights the musical Eras they survived, from "Corrina Corrina" from 1961 to "Cloudy Summer Afternoon" from 1963 to "Put Another Log On The Fire" in 1975. The CD has a full colour photo on it and the whole presentation. All tracks are dated too, which is very helpful.

Ben Lummis was the first winner of that TV Talent Quest Show "NZ Idol" and this CD Single was rushed out to cash in on his success while the Show was still a hot talking point. It was followed by an equally hastily recorded full Album and then Ben faded from the scene totally. Blame his Record Company, not Ben, for the haste and errors in judgement on the material recorded. Title Track: "They Can't Take That Away". The second track is called "Coffee And Cream" ... and that's it. Just 2 songs.
